The Staircase Makes the Hotel

A grand staircase makes any hotel feel more luxurious even before you get to your room.

This beautiful open air structural steel stair case has been constructed by TWS Calgary Structural Steel to showcase the new lobby in a soon to open Calgary hotel.

With a number of fitted pieces fabricated at the welding shop, the staircase was transported and then moved into place with a heavy rotator crane and welded on site by the TWS crew.

Blueprints are strictly adhered to too keep delays at a minimum as the team works with other contractors on the hotel.

What is a Mezzanine?

A mezzanine is basically a structural area that extends over a specific floor space. They are often used to create open space that can be decorated to add ambience to unused floor space in places like office buildings, hotels or cultural centers.

These huge structural curved steel beams are being used to create the arched ceiling in a mezzanine currently being constructed at Calgary Hospital.

Once TWS Calgary installs the beams they will help open the ceiling and give the area a greater sense of space.

TWS Structural Steel 29 Floors High

Managing and manipulating large steel beams at any level can not only be difficult but dangerous as well. Add to that epic smoke clouding the atmosphere from nearby forest fires, it not only makes the job dangerous but possibly hazardous to ones health.

TWS continues to update the security guard rail on the 29th floor of this new hotel in downtown Calgary and while we are almost done, it hasn’t been easy.

These vertical columns made of 6″X10″ HSS steel are 8 feet tall and must be secure and manually anchored to the outside wall. A job that takes stamina and some nerve.

Structural Steel Guard Rail on 29th Floor

TWS Calgary has created the guard rail for the 29th floor of this new hotel in down town Calgary.

Let’s be honest, it’s on the roof and yes it’s a daunting view but TWS Calgary’s team is used to constructing structural steel at heights.

The vertical columns made of 6″X10″ HSS are 8 feet tall and tied in around the perimeter with 4X4  girders. These items are pre-built in the TWS shop, transported to site and then flown into place on the 29th floor with a Wolff 116B US crane.

It’s a precarious job that takes skill and finesse and once fenced in will keep those using the roof in the future, safe and sound.

New Mezzanine for Calgary Building

A mezzanine is an intermediate floor (or floors) in a building which is open to the floor below. It is placed halfway up the wall on a floor which has a ceiling at least twice as high as a floor with minimum height.

TWS Calgary is installing these huge structural steel beams for a Calgary client in their new office building. Structural Steel Hopper Installation

TWS Calgary just manufactured and installed these huge hoppers for a local company.

A hopper is a large, pyramidal or cone shaped container used in industrial processes to hold particulate matter or flow-able material of any sort, like dust, gravel, nuts, seeds etc. and can then dispense these from the bottom when needed.

After constructing these steel hoppers had to be installed and secured on site with a structural frame work anchored to heavy metal footings.
